About the Event

About the Event
BAF Free‑Flight Indoor F1N
Indoor Hand‑Launch Glider Championship

1. Definition
A non‑propelled, fixed‑wing model aircraft flown entirely within an enclosed space, generating lift solely from its fixed aerodynamic surfaces.

2. Characteristics
Wings: Fixed (no variable‑area or folding).

Construction: Competitor‑built; up to 3 models per entrant.

Identification: Each model must display the competitor’s unique BAF ID on the upper surface of the wing.

3. Number of Flights
Each pilot is allowed 15 flights total:

5 rounds

Up to 3 attempts per round

4. Official Flight
Your first valid attempt in each round is scored.

If invalid (§ 5), you receive one retry.

If the second is also invalid, the flight scores 0 s.

5. Invalid Attempts
An attempt is void—and grants a retry—if during launch or flight the model:

Collides with any person or object held by a person (competitor excluded).

Collides mid‑air with another model.

Loses any part.

6. Timing of Flights
Timekeepers: Two independent, using electronic stop‑watches.

Start: At launch.

Stop: When the model comes to rest on the floor, or contacts any part of the building and stops translational movement.

Official Time:

Average of the two readings.

Rounded down to the nearest 0.1 s.

If readings differ significantly, the organizer & Jury decide.

7. Overall Classification
Preliminaries

Sum of your five best flight times.

Ties: Broken by your 6th best, then 7th, etc.

Final Fly‑Off

Top 30 % of pilots.

9 flights (3 rounds × 3 attempts).

Sum of your three best; ties broken by the 4th best, then 5th.
